The main objective of this project is to increase milk and meat production of our native Egyptian buffaloes by application of the following three approaches:

I) identification of 30 Egyptian buffalo genes related to mammary gland development and subsequently milk production (15 lactogenic genes) and muscles development and subsequently meat production (15 myogenic genes);

II) establishment of a molecular method for buffalo selection based on the different genetic variation between high and low milk/meat producing buffalo; and

III) production of double muscles transgenic buffalo.
