RETAINING WALL

 

Q 1-         Explain using clear sketches some practical use of retaining walls.

Q 2-         Mention the different type of retaining walls with empirical dimension.

Q 3-         Differentiate between massive retaining walls and cantilever retaining walls with respect to material, stability, and dimensions.

Q 4-         Discuss failure types of retaining wall.

Q 5-         How to increase the stability  of the retaining walls for any modes of failure?

Q 6-         Discuss the effect of water table overall stability of cantilever type retaining walls

·        Existence of surcharge on the upper or lower ground surface.

·        Rise of the ground behind the walls.

Q 7-         Explain using cleat sketches the different types of drainage systems used to relief the hydrostatic pressure behind the retaining walls.

Q 8-         For plain concrete gravity retaining wall shown in Fig. ( 1)  It is required to check overall stability.

Q 9-         For plain concrete gravity retaining wall shown in Fig. ( 2)  It is required to check overall stability.

Q 10-    Design the cantilever reinforced concrete shown in Fig. ( 3) for the given data:

fc = 60 Kg/cm2 , fs = 1400 kg/cm2 , k1 = 0.31 , k2 = 1218.

Q 11-     For the shown reinforced concrete  Reversed L- Shaped retaining wall in the Fig. ( 4). It is required to design this system. Show to scale section elevation with full details.

Q 12-    Resolve problem No. 10 in case of L- Shaped retaining wall.

Q 13-    For the counterfort retaining wall shown in Fig. ( 5 ). It is required to design this system. Show to scale section elevation with full details.

Q 14-    For the Buttressed retaining wall shown in Fig. ( 6 ). It is required to design this system. Show to scale section elevation with full details.
