Kafrelsheikh University Organizes "Our Mediterranean, Our Future" Seminar to Raise Awareness on Protecting the Mediterranean Sea and Supporting Joint Environmental Efforts

The Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Kafrelsheikh University organized today an extensive awareness seminar titled "Our Mediterranean, Our Future" on Sunday, November 30, 2025. Held at the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, the event was sponsored by Dr. Ismail Ismail Ibrahim, acting president of Kafrelsheikh University, and Dr. Amani Shaker, vice president of the university for community service and environmental development affairs. The seminar aimed to enhance awareness of the Mediterranean Sea's importance and the necessity of preserving its natural resources as a global heritage and life source for many regional peoples.

The event was attended by Dr. Inas El-Gendy, Dean of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, and Dr. Nourhan Ragheb, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. The seminar was lectured by Dr. Mohamed Kotb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment for the Delta, and Dr. Mohamed El-Ganzouri, Director of the Environmental Management Department at the Governorate, in the presence of faculty members and college students.

Dr. Ismail Ismail Ibrahim, Acting President of Kafrelsheikh University, affirmed that the university pays significant attention to environmental and climate issues, stressing that the Mediterranean Sea represents an essential part of the environmental and economic security of bordering states.

The president of Kafrelsheikh University noted that the seminar's title, "Our Mediterranean, Our Future," is not merely a slogan but a clear message that preserving the Mediterranean Sea is a collective responsibility requiring concerted academic, societal, and governmental efforts. He added, "Kafrelsheikh University continues to support activities that enhance environmental awareness culture among students and the local community."

Dr. Ismail Ibrahim further stated that the university works to integrate the environmental dimension into various academic and research programs and encourages student initiatives concerned with protecting the marine and coastal environment.

For her part, Dr. Amani Shaker, vice president of the university for community service and environmental development affairs, clarified that the seminar comes within a series of events and programs implemented by the university to support sustainable development goals and enhance partnerships with concerned entities. She pointed out that the Mediterranean Sea faces significant challenges due to pollution and climate change, emphasizing the importance of integrating roles between educational institutions and environmental bodies to raise awareness levels and encourage positive behaviors. She noted that the university is keen to engage students in practical initiatives contributing to marine environmental protection.

Dr. Amani Shaker also confirmed that the Community Service Sector at Kafrelsheikh University continues implementing awareness campaigns, workshops, and environmental monitoring projects to enhance the culture of preserving natural resources.

The seminar addressed four main axes: the importance of the Mediterranean Sea; the challenges it faces, including pollution, overfishing, climate change, and maritime congestion; the responsibility of regional states and peoples in confronting these challenges; and finally, the role of individuals and society in protecting this vital environmental heritage.

At the conclusion of the activities, participants affirmed the necessity of continuing cooperation among the university, governmental entities, and civil society to preserve the Mediterranean Sea as a vital resource for future generations. They praised the pioneering role of Kafrelsheikh University in disseminating environmental awareness and organizing scientific events supporting sustainability issues.
