Kafrelsheikh University :

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

The professional veterinary program at Kafrelsheikh University is one of the most prestigious programs of its kind in the Middle East .The program has already established a national reputation for excellence in teaching, research and community outreach. Becoming a veterinarian requires dedication and diligent study.

The veterinary medical student must meet high standards of ethics and academic performance. Although the demands on student time and energy are considerable, the rewards and challenges are numerous.

The professional degree curriculum is a five year program composed of three years of classroom/laboratory study and a two years of clinical study. It is designed to give future veterinarians a solid base in the art and science of veterinary medicine especially disease recognition and clinical competency. Basic biomedical sciences, preclinical and clinical sciences comprise the bulk of study.

Goals of the Professional Program:

The objective of the veterinary curriculum is to provide a broad education in veterinary medicine that will permit graduates to enter a wide variety of professional careers. A balance of instructional experiences will be provided, rendering graduates an opportunity to meet societal needs.

Upon completion of the professional program, graduates will be able to:

1-Perform as productive and resourceful members of the veterinary profession.

2-Provide an academic and scholarly approach to problem solving, the questions of spontaneous diseases, the further development of preventive medical problems, and the further enhancement of inquiry into basic phenomena.

3-Deal with the pressing veterinary medical issues of the day.

4-Conduct productive professional activities with keen attention to human and ethical purpose of behavior.

5-Exercise career options in postgraduate education or in collateral biomedical research environments.

6-Appreciate a commitment to continuing and lifelong education.

Description Of The Program

The academic professional program calls for two phases of education. A basic and preclinical three-year phase is followed by a clinical phase in the fourth and fifth year of study.

- Each study year is divided into two semesters , the 1st  semester ( Sep. to January ) and the 2nd semester ( February to June ) .

- Students must spend 4 months of practical summer training(two months in the summer between the third and the fourth year and two months in the summer between the fourth and the fifth year) in veterinary medical diagnostic laboratories inside and outside the campus, in veterinary clinics and hospitals, in abattoirs , in food and drugs manufacturing companies and in animals, poultry and fish farms.

The program curriculum distributed as in the following tables :
