As part of the State's commitment to achieving sustainability and enhancing the efficient use of resources, and under the patronage of Professor Yehia Zakaria Eid, President of Kafrelsheikh University, and Professor Amani Mohamed Shaker, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, under the supervision of Professor Naglaa Hosny El-Ashraf, Dean of the Faculty, and Professor Rasha Abdullah Gawish, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and in the presence of Professor Wajida Hammad, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and members of the Community Service and Environmental Development Committee, the Faculty of Specific Education organized, on Tuesday, 28 April, a distinguished awareness seminar entitled "Energy Conservation: Between Waste and Sustainability." The seminar was held within the framework of the initiative launched by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research under the slogan "Save It to Light It."
The seminar addressed the growing global challenges facing the energy sector and emphasized the importance of rational energy consumption as a national necessity. It also highlighted the differences between unsustainable consumption patterns and sustainable practices, as well as the role of university students in promoting environmental awareness within the community. The seminar was delivered by Professor Iman Saad Ahmed, Professor of Electrical Power Systems and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Community Service and Environmental Development, who emphasized that energy conservation is no longer an option but a national commitment that supports the economy and preserves the country's resources for future generations. She further noted that the transition toward sustainability begins with individual awareness and is directly reflected in everyday behavior.
The seminar witnessed active engagement from students, who presented several practical proposals, including reducing unnecessary lighting consumption across the university campus, expanding the use of renewable energy sources, and launching student-led initiatives to promote sustainability and strengthen environmental awareness.
In this context, Professor Naglaa Hosny El-Ashraf, Dean of the Faculty, affirmed that organizing such seminars reflects the University's community engagement and awareness-raising mission. She stressed that promoting a culture of energy conservation represents a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development and emphasized that students' awareness is the true foundation for building a society that uses its resources more efficiently.
The seminar concluded by emphasizing that sustainability begins with individual behavior and that adopting simple yet conscious practices can create a meaningful impact, transforming the "Save It to Light It" initiative from a slogan into a way of life that supports the creation of a more sustainable and prosperous future.
