The Department of Home Economics admits both male and female students. It is one of the leading departments that focuses on human nature, growth, and needs throughout the different stages of life. The Department is concerned with studying the environment surrounding the family and the home, considering it the primary factor influencing family life. It also emphasizes the optimal utilization of the environment's limited resources in a manner that promotes the well-being of the family in particular and society in general.

The Home Economics curriculum, through its various fields of study, contributes to addressing environmental issues, increasing health and nutritional awareness, and reinforcing the values and traditions associated with family life that are compatible with society. This is achieved by fostering the comprehensive, integrated, and balanced development of family members and preparing them to become productive individuals who work for their own well-being, the welfare of their families, and the benefit of humanity as a whole.

The Department aims to prepare Home Economics teachers academically to enable them to perform the teaching profession required at all stages of pre-university education in the previously mentioned fields. The Department of Home Economics grants the Master's and Doctoral degrees in Nutrition and Food Sciences, Clothing and Textiles, Home Management and Family Economics, and Curriculum and Instruction in the specialization.

The Department also prepares male and female students for direct employment in various private-sector fields through small-scale enterprises and work in different community institutions.
