About the First Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Egypt

In 2017, Prof. Dr. Maged El-Kemary, made the bold, strategic decision to establish the Institute of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (INN), the first institute of its kind in Egypt and is the second in the Arab world. The academic work of the Institute is organized into three divisions: Nanoscience, Nanomedicine and Nanoengineering. Graduate study at the Institute is divided further into three degree programs, which are: Diploma, Master and PhD. Entering graduate students are admitted into one of these options and are supervised by those professors whose interests and research are closely related to the area of the option.

The main building of the Institute encompasses wet laboratories, characterization laboratories, microscope and laser facilities, as well as clean rooms that will prove conducive for nano research. It also includes offices, seminar/conference rooms, and support space for researchers working at the nanoscale. The infrastructure would include a science and technology business incubator which will nurture early stage entrepreneurial ventures based on nanoscience and technology.

The Institute provides leading-edge R&D infrastructure and professional services to provide competitive researchers and their partners in academia, industry, and startups in the discovery, development, and application of transformative technologies. Academic scientists are encouraged to translate their research into marketable products and perhaps even new business opportunities and benefit society through research integrated with education.
