Dr. Ismail Ismail Ibrahim, Acting President of the University, announced that the university has achieved a new scientific milestone, adding to its distinguished record of accomplishments, by ranking first among Egyptian universities in both the physical sciences and social sciences, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2026.
He explained that the university ranked in the 401-500 range globally in the physical sciences and in the 601-800 range globally in the social sciences. Furthermore, the university ranked second among Egyptian universities in life sciences and engineering, placing globally in the 401-500 range in life sciences and in the 501-600 range in engineering.
He added that the university also achieved fourth place among Egyptian universities in the fields of medical and health sciences and computer science, ranking globally in the 601-800 range in both disciplines.
Dr. Ismail Ismail Ibrahim affirmed that this achievement reflects the ongoing efforts of Kafrelsheikh University in supporting the education and scientific research system and developing institutional performance according to international standards. He pointed out that the remarkable progress in international rankings is due to raising the level of scientific research, improving the quality of international publications, increasing citation rates of scientific research, and expanding international cooperation with research and industrial institutions both within and outside Egypt.
The President of Kafrelsheikh University explained that the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings are based on five main areas for evaluating universities: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry application. This is achieved through 13 performance indicators related to teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international surveys, allowing for comprehensive and balanced comparisons between universities worldwide. The ranking also takes into account the number of doctoral degrees awarded, the faculty-to-student ratio, the percentage of postgraduate students, the diversity of disciplines, as well as the university's budget and income, reflecting the strength and dynamism of its research and institutional environment.
The university president pointed out that this distinction reflects the vision of the Egyptian state and its political leadership in supporting higher education and scientific research. He emphasized that the achievements of Egyptian universities in general, and Kafrelsheikh University in particular, in international rankings are the fruit of ambitious national policies aimed at raising the quality of education and scientific research, and placing Egyptian universities among the world's leading universities.
Dr. Ismail Ismail Ibrahim expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the faculty members, teaching assistants, researchers, and staff of the university, commending their dedicated efforts and their active role in achieving this accomplishment. He affirmed that this success is a collective achievement that reflects the spirit of teamwork within the university and demonstrates that Kafrelsheikh University is moving steadily towards excellence and leadership locally, regionally, and globally.
For his part, Dr. Hassan Younis, supervisor of the ranking unit at Kafr El-Sheikh University, pointed out that the university has succeeded in enhancing its research standing by increasing the number of research papers published in international scientific journals with a high impact factor, and by increasing the percentage of referenced research and its global citation rates, which has positively impacted the university's ranking in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject.
