The department presents academic programs that aim to graduating students who are capable of:

1-Perceiving the concepts and terms used in the science of libraries and information and its relationship with other fields of science

2-Knowing the basis of IT, telecommunications and their applications in information institutions

3-Efficiently dealing with information, technology and management

4-Follow thinking and scientific research approaches in solving problems at information institutions

5-Organizing, managing, spreading and marketing information using modern technology

6-Managing various sources of information and building polices for developing collectibles

7-Knowing methods and procedures for information research and retrieval, as well as the ability to build and design research strategies

8-Studying the behaviors of users of information institutions

9-Provision of information services that meet the needs and satisfy the diverse and renewable desires of community beneficiaries

10-Understanding and applying systems, tools and technology, such as the technology used in databases and content management

11-Applying the concepts of quality and standards in order to upgrade the level of services offered by the library and improve its work system

12-Dissemenation of information awareness and removing information literacy

The academic standards we follow are to graduate students who are capable of:

·         Clarifying the scientific concepts related to libraries and information specialty, and its position within the general framework of human knowledge

·         Traces the historical and current developments in the specialty, as well as the future trends

·         Recognize the current and future developments in the IT field and its applications in the information institutions

·         Explaining the technical operations carried out within information institutions

·         Identifying the forms and types of information sources and how to select, manage, and organize it using information and communication technology

·         Recognizing the rules and regulations to search for information and how to retrieve it

·         Describing the steps for setting up, presenting and marketing library and information services using IT applications

·         Recognizing the technical and functional requirements for the establishment of libraries in its digital or traditional image

·          Recognizing the methods of analyzing the behavior and trends of the beneficiaries in using information

·         Mentioning web design standards for libraries and information centers websites

·         Recognizing the ethics of working in information institutions and their legislations

·         Describing the steps of conducting a research in the specialization of libraries and information

Mental skills

The graduate should be capable of:

·         Criticizing the theories and concepts related to libraries and information specialty

·         Diagnosing the current state of information technology and its applications in information institutions

·         Choosing issues related to the career of libraries and information to present solutions or alternatives for it

·         Planning to establish digital or traditional library

·         Comparing between the activities of organizing information inside information institutions

Professional skills

  The graduate should be capable of

·         Choosing and assessing printed and electronic sources of information available on the internet

·          Efficiently using the tools of work to accomplish the technical operations inside information institutions

·         Using modern means of technology in  detecting the sources of information and the provision of services

·         Managing the operations of acquisition, technical organizing, reservation and retrieval of sources of information

·         Providing library and information services as well as marketing them

·         Searching in bibliographic and full text databases

·         Designing and analyzing the systems within information institutions

·         Using appropriate program to each information institution according to their requirements

·         Designing websites for libraries and centers of information

·         Determining the behavior and needs of beneficiaries to access to information

·         Dealing with digital libraries and web techniques easily

·         Discussing the future developments related to his profession, as well as suggesting ways to keep improving it

·         Exploiting the potentials and the available resources efficiently and working to increase them

·         Preparing and implementing a research note about a problem related to libraries and information
